This antique book contains an address given by Dr. William Jayne, a "neighbor and intimate friend" of President Abraham Lincoln. The address was delivered to The Grand Army Hall and Memorial Association on February 12, 1900 in honor of the late president's birthday. The book also contains a short handwritten letter dated Easterday 1908, as it was a gift from Francis Asbury Riddle to Charles Peter Engel. Riddle was a former First Lieutenant of the United States Colored Troops (although he himself was white), and Engel was a 17 year old officer and Finnish immigrant. A fascinating little piece of American history!
This book is very worn and should be handled carefully, but still maintains its structural integrity.
