Johwey Redington - Original Art
Cut-Paper Light Boxes
Johwey is based in South Orange County, California. They do mixed media work-- primarily encaustic, as well as paper and book art. Their background is in architecture, and they use their skills in model-making and construction to transform 2D paper into 3D art. They create scenes that depict worlds, both real and imagined. And their goal is to draw people into these worlds and ignite their imagination as to what story the scenes are trying to tell. The paper layers are all hand-cut with a utility knife and then assembled in a deep frame. They then add led lights (powered by usb) to create additional dimension to the piece. There is a duality in each piece wherein highlights and shadows are created differently depending on whether the light is on or off. This makes each piece all the more interesting.
In the past, they have exhibited works in various galleries and art shows in California, Illinois, New York, Paris, Cannes, Rome, Venice, Florence, Vienna, Basel, and Barcelona.
