Cutting Ties

We have these places and moments that we romanticize. The further in time we get from these moments and the further in distance we get from these places, we remember them in a way that may or may not be accurate. We remember them as all good, as if we went back in time to these exact places in those exact moments, that everything would feel right again. These places can feel like they are a part of us, and the ties to them snap as we lose accurate memory of them. If we can cut ties to the romanticized (and often untrue) versions of these memories, we can finally see the places in their true selves. Just places. We can go back. We still have the memories. But they aren’t the only thing we have, the life we wanted isn’t over. We will go to more places and make more memories. Good, bad, neutral. It’s okay to move on, to leave. The memories are still in our blood.
