Fairy Ring

Erin Garey

Fairy Ring

In English and Scandinavian folklore fairy rings are said to arise from the dancing of the fairy folk, their magic causing toadstools to grow in a circle. It is said that while entering the circle might allow the interloper to see the fae, this was not guaranteed, and would also put the intruder at the mercy of fairy illusions.

Erin Garey – Original Artwork
Erin Garey was born in Minneapolis and moved to rural Minnesota when she was 6. There she grew up running around the forests looking for fairy-folk and making up stories. But Minnesota brings long dark winters, so she devoted that time to the devouring of fairy tales, myths, and comic books. This imagery and the narrative elements along with a love of nature continue to inform her work to this day.

After graduating high school, Erin attended Minnesota State University, Moorehead and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts before moving to Minneapolis in 2001. In 2003 Erin moved to Los Angeles and has since worked as a fine artist, freelance illustrator, and Art Director for an after-school art program for children and teenagers. Erin currently lives and works in Echo Park where she continues to search for the fairy-folk and makes up visual stories.
