Made of Hagop is a self-taught mixed media collage artist. Originally based in Los Angeles, he is now on the road, living a nomadic lifestyle with his wife, Sky. His work is an exploration in the concept of synergy: the creation of a whole that is greater that the sum of its parts. By constructing unlikely relationships between images, Hagop brings new meaning and purpose to the subject matter, in hopes of challenging society’s preconceived notions regarding race, gender, and culture. Hagop’s “creatures” represent the merging of a human being with their spirit animal, and aims to demonstrate that we are all created from the same energy that unites us as one global community. Hagop’s intention with the work is for people to recognize their own spirit and witness their strength of character reflected back to them. The source materials of his work come from books and imagery dated from the early 1500’s to 1800’s , and are retrieved from public domains and libraries from around the world.
