"I depict cartoon-like characters in my imaginary, candy-colored world of pop and fantasy, using a sand painting technique known as Sunae in Japanese. Sunae is made with brightly colored, fine-grain sand on adhesive paper. Although the process requires patience and precision, it evokes a childlike sense of playfulness and joy within me. Some of my characters are quite whimsical. I imagine myself visiting their worlds and observing their daily lives. Through humorous depictions of these characters—both endearing and, at times, awkward—I express everyday life and give meaning to the idea of “living in the present moment.”
