Darnell Waine is a 36 year old painter born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. He works primarily in oil and acrylics. His work aims to explore the complexities of being human at the level of the individual. The anatomical heart and humanoid heart-headed figure, aka Krymson, are the main motifs he uses to express what he considers to be the deepest truths of the human experience: emotional & psychological isolation, true & false self reckoning and individuation.
The heart diamond is another motif of mine. Being that diamond is the hardest natural material on earth, forged under extreme heat and pressure, the image of the heart diamond symbolizes the difficulty of truly loving oneself, and the immense amounts of pressure required for the individual to truly face their own conditioning, fears, doubts, guilt, shame, etc. Willingly going thru this process, enduring the “heat and pressure” of radical self honesty & reflection, allowing false realities to break down and doing the necessary work to rebuild oneself in truth makes a person mentally & emotionally indestructible. In this new form, we shine bright, like a diamond.
